Mr. Alton BathrickSenior Vice President, Allied Capital
For the last 3 decades Mr. Bathrick has led or created financial services organizations with quantifiable success. A veteran of Robert W. Baird & Co, where he ran the Bond trading desk, he now serves as Senior VP of Allied Capital in Washington, DC. Complimenting his success in business, Mr. Bathrick has led a passionate campaign to attract and nurture minority owned organizations in the Milwaukee area.

Mr. Steve Kent Managing Director, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods
Steve Kent joined Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Inc. in August of 1998 as a managing director of the firm's newly established Chicago office. Prior to joining KBW, he was a managing director and head of the financial institutions group at Robert W. Baird & Co. Mr. Kent acted as a member of Baird's board of directors and operating and capital commitment committees. At KBW, Mr. Kent focuses on merger and acquisition and capital markets activities for Midwestern banks. He has also been involved with merger and acquisition and capital market activities for non-bank financial service companies including the insurance, mortgage banking and specialty finance industries. Mr. Kent received a B.A. in Economics with honors from Ripon College and a M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. John KomivesCEO, Lakeshore Group & Entrepreneur in Residence University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee
For the past 30 years, Dr. Komives has served as a consultant to smaller growth-oriented companies. In this capacity, Dr. Komives has also served on the Board of Directors of 12 companies. He is an Adjunct Lecturer at UW-Milwaukee, teaching in the MBA program there. Dr. Komives lives with his wife of 47 years in Mequon, WI and they have 4 grown daughters.

Mr. Lance Severson
For twenty plus years Lance Severson has enhanced and grown relationships with strategic accounts in the IT and Financial Services industries. After earning his MBA in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin Madison, he joined IBM in 1989 where he served in the capacity of Client Executive for over eleven years. Mr. Severson joined Thomson Reuters BETA Systems in 2000 as VP National Accounts. In 2004 he was appointed Director Client Relationship Management where he continued to formulate strategy and execute his passion for client engagement, partnering and consultative solution selling. Lance lives in Mequon with his wife and two daughters. 

Mr. Russ Schwei Chief Operation and Information Officer, Robert W. Baird & Co.
Russ Schwei, a native of Wisconsin earned his accounting degree and CPA certification from Marquette University in 1981. For three years he worked with Arthur Andersen before joining Robert W. Baird & Co. in 1984. During the years 1984-1992, Mr. Schwei assisted the Director of Operations in varied capacities. In 1992 he was appointed Director of Operations. He served as Director of Operations with responsibilities that encompass Operations, Information Technology, Mutual Fund Operations, Facilities, Performance Monitoring & Fee Based Account Administration. In 2005 he was named the Chief Operations & Information Officer for the Company. Mr. Schwei is married with two teenage children, a girl and a boy.

BB or BA?

Some confusion in the marketplace - What is the difference between a Business Analyst (BA)?

and a Black Belt (BB) The role of a Business Analyst is quite common in the financial sector - that is not so much the case with other sectors. Sometimes when it comes to execution of large-scale projects, the first reaction of financial firm is to throw a BA at it. "Let them analyze the process and collect business requirements", as if we are already in the Analyze or Improve phase of a project. Other times, there seems to be downright confusion about the role of a BB vs. a BA.
